How Alaska Insights collects, analyzes, and reports its data — and how to cite it in your story.

About Alaska Insights

Alaska Insights is the original-research arm of Intro Market Research Group LLC, an Anchorage-based market research firm. We publish free interactive dashboards and original survey research focused on the Alaska consumer — built for businesses, journalists, and policymakers who need data that no one else is producing.

Reports are released on a quarterly cadence. All findings are independently produced; we do not accept sponsored research or paid placements.

Demographic Dashboards

Data sources

Our ZIP-code-level demographic dashboards are built on data from established US population sources, including but not limited to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates, supplemented by licensed third-party demographic data providers.

Geographies covered include all Alaska ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) where data is available. Some sparsely populated ZIPs may have suppressed values to protect respondent privacy, in line with the source provider's disclosure rules.

Update cadence

Dashboards are refreshed when underlying source data is updated — typically annually for ACS-based variables. Each dashboard displays its data vintage prominently.

Limitations

  • ACS estimates carry margins of error that grow at smaller geographies. For very small ZIPs, treat individual values as indicative rather than precise.
  • ZIP Code Tabulation Areas approximate USPS ZIPs but do not match them perfectly.
  • Demographic snapshots reflect the past several years, not real-time conditions.

Survey Research

Sampling

Our consumer surveys aim for samples that reflect Alaska's adult population (18+) across region, age, gender, and income, weighted to known population benchmarks where appropriate. Sample sizes typically range from 400 to 800 respondents per study, yielding margins of error of approximately ±3.5 to ±5 percentage points at the 95% confidence level for the full sample.

Recruitment

Respondents are recruited through a combination of opt-in online survey platforms, social media, partner networks, and direct outreach within Alaska. We screen for current Alaska residency before respondents begin the survey.

Data quality controls

  • Attention checks and trap questions to identify low-quality responses
  • Speeder removal (responses completed faster than the 5th-percentile time)
  • Geo-IP verification of US/Alaska origin where technically feasible
  • Open-ended response review for nonsense or AI-generated content

Analysis

Findings are reported with sample sizes, fielding dates, and statistical significance noted where comparisons are made between subgroups. We default to two-sided tests at the 95% confidence level.
